What is it?
The CR-V RS e:HEV AWD is the latest version of Honda's largest SUV available in South Africa. It sits at the top of the CR-V range and marks the first time the model has been offered locally with Honda's self-charging hybrid technology. Competing in the medium SUV segment, the newcomer focuses on efficiency, practicality and comfort.
Powertrain:
Under the bonnet is Honda's e:HEV hybrid system, which combines a 2.0-litre petrol engine with two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack.
The petrol engine produces 106kW and 189Nm, while the electric drive system delivers 135kW and 335Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through an electronic continuously variable transmission. The system can switch automatically between electric, hybrid and engine drive modes depending on road conditions and driving demands.
Interior:
One of the biggest changes is the return to a five-seat configuration. This allows for increased luggage capacity and a more spacious load area.
The cabin features RS-specific leather upholstery, white ambient lighting and a clean dashboard design. Occupants also benefit from improved refinement, with Honda placing additional emphasis on reducing road and wind noise inside the cabin.
Exterior:
The latest CR-V adopts a more distinctive look, while RS-specific styling details help differentiate it from previous models.
Gloss-black exterior trim elements, revised bumper designs and dual exhaust outlets give the SUV a sportier appearance. Buyers can also choose from a range of paint finishes, including the new Blazing Red Pearl option.
Features:
Standard specification includes a panoramic sunroof, head-up display, wireless smartphone charger, USB-C connectivity and a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen.
The SUV is also equipped with Honda SENSING safety technologies, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Road Departure Mitigation and Collision Mitigation Braking System functions. A LaneWatch camera system is also fitted to improve visibility when changing lanes.
Price and warranty:
The Honda CR-V 2.0 RS e:HEV AWD is priced at R949 900. The purchase price includes a five-year/200 000 km warranty, an eight-year/200 000 km hybrid-system warranty and a five-year/90 000 km service plan.
