First introduced locally in 2013, the Duster quickly became a trusted companion for motorists seeking an authentic SUV capable of tackling both urban streets and adventurous paths.
What is it?
The new Duster is built on Renault Group’s modular platform and continues to occupy the compact SUV segment. It retains the adventurous spirit that defined earlier generations while adopting a more sophisticated approach to design and equipment. Positioned as a versatile option for both city driving and off‑road exploration, it offers South African motorists a modernised take on a proven formula.
Exterior:
The latest Duster adopts Renault’s current design language. A prominent front grille with the DUSTER nameplate, muscular bodywork and robust skid plates define its look. Signature LED lighting, a horizontal rear light bar and 18‑inch alloy wheels add to its visual impact. The styling reflects a balance between rugged capability and contemporary appeal, says the manufacturer.
Interior:
Inside, the cabin has undergone a significant transformation. A driver‑focused cockpit features dual OpenR Link displays, an elevated centre console and improved materials. Ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof, dual‑zone climate control and ambient lighting are available on higher trims.
Practicality remains a strength, with boot capacity of 518 litres expanding to 1 789 litres when the rear seats are folded. Connectivity is enhanced through a 10.1‑inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, complemented by a 10.25‑inch digital driver display on selected models.
Powertrains:
The range offers two turbocharged petrol engines. The entry‑level option is a 1.0‑litre unit producing 74kW, paired with a six‑speed manual transmission. A more powerful 1.3‑litre engine delivers 116kW and up to 260Nm, available with either a six‑speed manual or a six‑speed EDC automatic transmission. Ground clearance of 212mm and a suspension setup tuned for comfort and durability ensure the Duster remains capable across varied road conditions.
Prices and warranty:
The line‑up consists of five derivatives: Duster Evolution 1.0 Turbo 6MT (R339 999), Duster Evolution 1.3 Turbo 6MT (R379 999), Duster Techno 1.3 Turbo EDC (R399 999), Duster Techno+ 1.3 Turbo EDC (R439 999) and Duster Iconic 1.3 Turbo EDC (R499 999). All models are supported by a 5‑year/150 000km mechanical warranty, a 3‑year/45 000km service plan and 24‑hour roadside assistance.
