Volvo cars now feature Google Gemini

Volvo has confirmed that its vehicles will now integrate Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence system. This development builds on the company’s existing collaboration with Google, which already provides Android Automotive OS and Google services in Volvo models.

The addition of Gemini introduces advanced AI capabilities into the car environment, allowing for more natural interaction between driver and vehicle systems.

Gemini is designed to handle conversational language, enabling drivers and passengers to communicate with the car in a way that feels closer to everyday speech. This means that requests for navigation, climate control or media can be made without relying on rigid commands.

The system is intended to reduce distraction by making voice control more intuitive and adaptable. It also supports multiple languages and can adjust to different contexts, which broadens its usability across markets.

Gemini will be available in models already equipped with Android Automotive OS. This includes popular vehicles such as the XC60 and XC90, as well as the fully electric EX30 and EX90. Specifications vary by model, but the common feature is the inclusion of Gemini within the infotainment system.

The technology will be updated over the air, ensuring that functionality improves over time without the need for physical upgrades. Drivers can expect enhanced voice recognition, contextual responses and closer integration with Google services.

Pricing of Volvo cars remains aligned with existing structures, Volvo says. The addition of Gemini does not directly affect retail prices, as it is included within the standard infotainment package of vehicles fitted with Google services. Costs continue to be determined by model, drivetrain and trim level
