Mahindra South Africa joined forces with Miss Soweto 2025/26, Lungile Siyaphi, to distribute food parcels to families in need at the Mamlangeni Community Centre in Orlando, Soweto.
The initiative took place on Thursday, 16 July 2026, ahead of Nelson Mandela International Day, observed annually on 18 July.
The food drive formed part of Mandela Month, which encourages citizens and organisations to dedicate 67 minutes of service in honour of Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of public service. This year’s theme, “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity”, guided the outreach, highlighting the importance of collective action against hunger and inequality.
Mahindra South Africa’s involvement reflects its commitment to corporate social responsibility, while Lungile Siyaphi’s participation continues the Miss Soweto tradition of championing social causes. The Miss Soweto pageant, established in 1979, has long been a platform for young women to engage in leadership and community service.
Lungile’s presence at the Orlando food distribution underscored her role as a public ambassador dedicated to uplifting local communities with the support of Mahindra SA.
The event brought relief to families in Orlando and reinforced Mandela’s vision of dignity and compassion through practical action.
