The move reflects the company's expanding operations and growing presence across Southern Africa, it states.
JAC Motors SA has invested more than R500 million in new premises within the Lanseria Smart City project, becoming the first major corporate participant in the development. The company recently relocated its head office to the site, while its parts warehouse will follow as the development progresses.
The investment comes as the manufacturer continues to record strong growth. According to CEO Karl-Heinz Göbel, sales have increased by more than 50% year-on-year over the past two years, creating the need for larger facilities to support existing and future operations.
The 10-hectare property was selected for its location near Lanseria International Airport and its position within the emerging airport-based smart city. Future plans for the site include a Retail Motor City, lifestyle-focused businesses, restaurants and an off-road track aimed at enthusiasts. The broader development is also expected to support the creation of more than 500 jobs.
JAC Motors SA's growth story in South Africa stretches back almost 10 years. Since establishing a local presence, the company has expanded its dealer network from 10 outlets to more than 60 across Southern Africa. At the same time, it has steadily increased its product offering and strengthened its aftersales and parts support infrastructure.
The company's local portfolio began with the launch of the X200 1.5-tonne forward-cab in 2017. Since then, the range has broadened to include additional X200 derivatives, T-Series bakkies and a variety of commercial trucks serving different transport sectors.
An important milestone came in 2021 when the company introduced its first battery-electric truck to the South African market. To date JAC Motors SA has supplied more than 60 electric commercial vehicles to fleet operators including Takealot, Eskom, DSV, Adcock Ingram, Interwaste, DP World and Blue Ribbon Bakery. JAC estimates that collectively these vehicles have travelled more than six million kilometres in service.
The company's standing within the broader JAC organisation has also grown. Earlier this year, JAC Motors SA received the Best Distributors Award from JAC Motors China, placing it among several recognised international markets. The business is currently ranked among the brand's top 10 distributors globally.
According to the company a major objective of the new facility is to improve logistics and parts distribution capabilities. Increased storage capacity and enhanced operational efficiency are expected to support quicker turnaround times and strengthen dealer and customer support across the region.
Looking ahead, JAC Motors SA plans to introduce several new products, including the T9 PHEV, JS9 seven-seater SUV, X200 2.0L CTi forward-cab, a new eight-tonne battery-electric truck and additional T6 single-cab 4x4 derivatives.
