To coincide with World LPG Autogas Day, DFSK South Africa is highlighting the benefits of LPG-powered commercial vehicles and the role they can play in reducing day-to-day transport costs for operators across the country.

DFSK South Africa has introduced an OEM-approved LPG conversion programme across its commercial vehicle range, providing customers with an alternative to relying solely on petrol. The system allows vehicles to operate using either LPG or petrol, giving drivers flexibility while potentially lowering fuel expenditure over time.

For businesses that cover significant distances each month, fuel remains one of the largest operating costs, the company claims. Whether used by delivery services, small enterprises, fleet operators or tradespeople, commercial vehicles are often required to spend long hours on the road. As a result, even modest savings per kilometre can have a meaningful impact on profitability.

According to DFSK South Africa CEO Gina Giani, the company's goal extends beyond simply offering affordable vehicles.

She believes businesses need practical solutions that help reduce ongoing operating expenses while maintaining the versatility required from modern commercial vehicles. The LPG initiative forms part of that broader approach, giving customers another tool to manage costs in a challenging economic environment.

Interest in the programme has continued to grow since its introduction, particularly among businesses looking for ways to improve operational efficiency. The ability to switch between petrol and LPG provides additional convenience and can help drivers adapt to various operating conditions.

DFSK has also demonstrated the real-world capabilities of LPG-powered motoring through an extensive roadshow covering approximately 1 200 kilometres in a DFSK C35 Panel Van. During the journey, the vehicle utilised around 80 litres of LPG and only a quarter tank of petrol, showcasing the practicality of the dual-fuel system in everyday use.

Beyond cost savings, LPG Autogas is increasingly recognised for its environmental benefits. Compared with conventional petrol and diesel applications, LPG can help reduce certain harmful exhaust emissions, making it an attractive option for businesses seeking cleaner transport solutions.

Looking ahead, DFSK South Africa believes alternative fuels will play an increasingly important role in the commercial vehicle market. Through its national dealer network, the company plans to expand awareness of LPG technology and help more businesses understand how lower running costs can contribute to improved long-term ownership value.
