Nampo Harvest Day near Bothaville in the Free State has always been the place where South Africa’s farming community gathers to see the latest machinery and, importantly, new bakkies.
This year is no exception, with Toyota, Isuzu, Mahindra and Ford all making headlines.
For Toyota, today is especially significant, as the company attempts a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of Hilux bakkies in one place. Thousands of owners are expected to converge on Nampo Park, creating a festive atmosphere that celebrates the enduring legacy of the Hilux while marking the debut of its new generation.
Toyota has made the Hilux the centrepiece of its stand, reflecting the strong bond between the brand and its community. The new Hilux represents the next step in a lineage that has become synonymous with durability and dependability in South Africa’s farming regions.
Isuzu has brought its facelifted D‑Max to Nampo, reinforcing its reputation for toughness. The updated model features a power‑bulge bonnet, wider grille, redesigned LED headlamps and distinctive L‑shaped tail lights. Inside, lower‑spec versions gain an 8‑inch infotainment screen, while higher grades receive a 9‑inch unit.
Engine options remain the 1.9‑litre turbodiesel and the 3.0‑litre, paired with manual or automatic transmissions. The expanded range ensures that the D‑Max continues to serve both work and leisure needs, with new derivatives broadening its appeal.
Mahindra has unveiled all‑new Bolero MaXX, aimed squarely at South African farmers. Shown in 1.5‑ton and 1.7‑ton variants, the Bolero MaXX emphasises payload and rugged utility. Its debut at Nampo highlights Mahindra’s intent to strengthen its presence in the agricultural sector, offering a reliable workhorse with modern styling and enhanced capacity. Positioned as a versatile option for heavy‑duty farm work, the Bolero MaXX builds on the brand’s reputation for affordability and toughness.
Ford has confirmed that the Ranger Super Duty will arrive in South Africa in 2027. Previewed at Nampo, this model is designed for industries requiring greater towing, load‑carrying and off‑road ability. Developed by Ford’s International Markets Group, the Super Duty blends the safety and technology of the current Ranger with heavy‑duty capability.
Available in single and double cab body styles, it is intended for mining, farming, forestry and emergency services, while also appealing to overlanding enthusiasts. Ford will support customisation through approved Pro Convertors, ensuring the Super Duty can be adapted for specialised tasks.
Toyota is at the 2026 Nampo Harvest Festival until Friday, 15 May.
