The clock is ticking for the launch of Changan in South Africa. Previously, the brand was known locally as Chana.
South African consumers can now look forward to a range that includes the Alsvin sedan, the CS75 Pro 5- and 7-seater SUV, the Hunter 2.0 ICE bakkie, the Hunter REEV range extender EV bakkie, and the Deepal S07 all-electric EV SUV – all engineered to handle real-world driving, from city streets to rugged rural roads.
Changan South Africa highlighted its commitment to bringing world-class smart technology to everyday South African drivers. Through features such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), EV and REEV platforms, paired with intelligent infotainment, Changan cars are built to make advanced tech feel natural, intuitive and practically usable.
This technology is available across the line-up – from the compact Alsvin sedan to the future-forward all-electric Deepal S07 EV SUV and the Hunter REEV, the world’s first range extender EV bakkie.
The Deepal S07:
The Deepal S07 features a 15.6-inch, high-definition floating centre infotainment screen that can rotate left or right by 15° for better viewing angles. From here, you can control your navigation, music, phone connectivity, climate control and voice control.
Intelligent Gesture Recognition Control also allows passengers to control various functions like music, calls and even taking photos with simple hand gestures, enhancing safety and convenience.
Other notable features include a 40W ventilated wireless fast charger, allowing you to charge your compatible devices quickly and conveniently, an augmented reality head-up display that allows drivers to see navigation directions, speed and other essential data without taking their eyes off the road.
The Hunter REEV:
It is the world’s first range extender EV Bakkie. The range extender electric vehicle (REEV) system used in the Changan Hunter REEV, where a small, efficient gasoline engine acts only as a generator to recharge the battery, provides a total driving range of over 1 000km without needing frequent charging.
This technology now offers South Africans the advantages of electric driving, such as quiet operation instant power delivery for improved acceleration, less emissions and smarter features – while eliminating range anxiety and turning it into a rugged, boldly designed, 4x4 double-cab bakkie.
"South Africans shouldn’t have to choose between affordability and smart technology," says local Jameel SA Country Manager, Marinus Venter. "At Changan, both value and surprising features arrive standard. Our vehicles offer intuitive tech experiences, designed with local driving conditions and lifestyle habits in mind. It’s smart technology, simply delivered, today."
The Nissan Navara Warrior by Premcar has reached its first year on sale in South Africa, offering buyers a more capable, off-road-focused version of the standard Navara bakkie.
Salvador Caetano South Africa has launched the all-new JMC Vigus bakkie onto the local market, marking the brand's entry into the highly competitive South African one-tonne pickup segment with the new vehicle.
The refreshed Ford Ranger line-up for 2026 strengthens its position as one of South Africa’s most popular bakkies. Built at Silverton, the range now spans 23 derivatives across Single Cab, Super Cab and Double Cab body styles.
