Jaguar’s first “crossover” to the SUV side was in 2015 when the F-Pace made its international debut, later to be followed by the smaller E-Pace and more recently the fully electrical I-Pace.
On the outside you will find a more sculpted bonnet, wider power bulge and smoother defined surfaces with the bonnet’s design helping to reduce the number of shut lines in the front. The enlarged grille now features the iconic Leaper emblem and a new front bumper with redesigned air intakes. There are also new slim all-LED quad headlights with integrated daytime running lights.
From the back one immediately notices the new slim lights, first seen on the electrical I-Pace that help to accentuate the width of the vehicle. The bumper has been redesigned as has the tailgate.
The biggest visual change is the new interior with a bolder cockpit design and greater focus on the driver. In the middle is a new central console and ‘n wireless charger. The main attraction is the centrally mounted 11.4-inch curved-glass HD touchscreen in a magnesium alloy casing, which controls the new Pivi Pro infotainment system with all the integrated functionality one can expect fin this segment.
New seats feature wider cushioning, new massage functions and enhanced coverage of the heated and cooling areas.
The new F-Pace follow other models in the Jaguar/Land Rover stable with the introduction of the new Ingenium series of four- and six-cylinder engines. This includes the P400e PHEV powertrain.
The new engine line-up in South Africa comprises:
Diesel:
147 kW (430 Nm) 2-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
221 kW (700 Nm) 3-litre six-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
Petrol:
184 kW (365 Nm) 2-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
297 kW PHEV (640 Nm) 2-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, AWD
The new 2.0-litre four-cylinder PHEV model produces a combined 297 kW and 640 Nm from its petrol engine and 76 kW electric motor. The advanced electric motor is powered by a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery with a 0-100 km/h figure of 5.3 seconds. When fully charged, the new P400e is capable of up to 53 km of all-electric driving. All engines are paired with Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The F-Pace has some fierce competitors with the likes the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, BMW’s X3 and X5, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Land Rover Evoque, Maserati Levante and the Porsche Macan.
The new F-Pace is scheduled for South African launch early 2021 and pricing will be announced closer to the time.
