Audi's new electric flagship charges to 80% in 18 minutes

Audi South Africa's newest electric model is built around an 800 volt electrical architecture, one of the more advanced systems the brand has fitted to a production car locally.

It supports DC charging at up to 320kW under ideal conditions, which allows the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent charge in roughly 18 minutes.

The battery itself has a gross capacity of 105kWh, with 97kWh usable, and this combination gives the car an electric driving range of between 533 and 592 kilometres. For home or workplace charging, an 11kW onboard AC charger is fitted as standard.

Keeping all of this working reliably is an advanced thermal management system that regulates the battery, the electric motors and the cabin climate at the same time. Audi says this is what allows the car to deliver consistent performance whether it is accelerating hard from a standstill, working through mountain roads or simply covering long distances at a steady pace.

Charging equipment is comprehensive as standard. Buyers get the e-tron charging system compact, a wall mount clip, a second charging port, a Mode 3 public charging cable, a South African domestic connector and an industrial CEE 32A connector. Two further industrial connectors are available as options for those who need extra flexibility across different charging environments.

Power is sent to the road through Audi's quattro system, with the electric motors producing torque outputs of 409Nm at the front axle and 590Nm at the rear.

The car is backed by an 8 year or 160 000km-warranty on the high voltage battery, in addition to Audi's standard 5 year or 100 000km-Freeway Plan, and buyers have access to Audi Financial Services.

It is available to order now through Audi's e-tron dealerships across the country, including outlets in Bryanston, Sandton, Menlyn, Umhlanga and Century City among others.
