The Volkswagen (VW) Tayron is the latest addition to the brand’s line-up, taking over the reins from the Tiguan Allspace. The 7-seater SUV is positioned between the range-topping Touareg and the Tiguan.

With VW’s large Touareg rumoured to reach the end of the road in 2026, the role of the Tayron will become even more important for those seeking a larger VW SUV.

A spokesperson for VWSA tells Dealerfloor that the Touareg which sells on averaged between 20 and 30 units locally per month, will be available for sale here up to 2027.

What is it?

The first-generation Tayron was built in China exclusively for the Chinse market. The second generation saw the evolution of this SUV spreading to various international markets. Today it’s built in China, Germany and Brazil, with South African versions coming for Germany.

Replacing the Tiguan Allspace (a larger version of the standard Tiguan), the Tayron provides a more powerful, technologically advanced and visually distinctly larger SUV profile than the Allspace.

Exterior:

The Tayron brings premium features like Blind Spot Monitor & Rear Traffic Alert

Smart Connected Drive: The Tayron Life comes standard with adaptive cruise control, wireless App-Connect and ambient lighting

Advanced safety features like the exit warning system and Travel Assist for a safer, more convenient driving experience.

Exterior:

With a length of 4.79m, the Tayron is characterised by a clean SUV design. At the front, LED headlights and the illuminated Volkswagen badge create an unmistakeable light signature. Technology systems, which were first developed for the Touareg, have been adapted.

Examples of the technology transferred to the Tayron include the interactive IQ, LIGHT HD matrix headlights and the seats with a pneumatic 10-chamber pressure point massage function.

The same applies to the rear with its full-length horizontal LED bar and illuminated Volkswagen logo.

Interior:

The seven-seater interior design also matches this standard. The interior features high-quality finishes and materials such as ArtVelours Eco (microfibre) and illuminated trims, depending on the equipment line.

The Tayron will launch with three equipment lines: Tayron Base, Life and R-Line. The 5-seater Base derivative offers Eco LED headlights, Park Assist, Blind spot monitor with rear traffic alert, 12.9-inch infotainment Radio, Adaptive cruise control with front assist.

The Tayron Life’s on board features are a three-zone automatic air conditioner, 10-colour background lighting, nine airbags, driving experience control and an infotainment system with App-Connect Wireless. The Life derivative also includes digital instruments, LED headlights with automatic main beam control.

The Tayron R-Line is characterised by sports comfort seats in Varenna leather, with extensive use of leather in the dash panel and doors, aluminium-look decorative trim and individual bumpers. The R-Line is also equipped with LED Plus headlights and 3D LED tail clusters.

Engine:

A 1.4 TSI 110kW and 25Nm engine mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission will be used.

Prices:

1.4 TSI 110kW Base DSG (R811 800), 1.4 TSI 110kW Life DSG (R853 800) and the 1.4 TSI 110kW R-Line DSG (R899 900).
