The TVS Apache RR310 is now on sale in South Africa through The Nexus Collective, priced from R89 999.
For that money, you get a fully faired supersport with an electronics package that would embarrass machines costing considerably more.
The RR310 was developed by TVS Motor Company in India, with the 312.2cc single cylinder engine sharing its roots with the BMW G 310 platform. The liquid cooled DOHC unit produces 38PS at 9 800rpm and tips the scales at just 174kg ready to ride, giving it a power to weight ratio that makes it genuinely quick on the road. TVS quotes a 0 to 60km/h time of 2.82 seconds and a top speed of 164km/h in Sport and Track modes, is claimed.
The engine uses a reverse inclined layout, which lowers the centre of gravity and improves mass centralisation. Hollow camshafts reduce valve train mass by 30 per cent, and a Diamond Like Carbon coated finger follower keeps things running cleanly at high revs.
Chassis hardware is solid throughout. There are inverted forks up front and a KYB monoshock at the rear, while braking is handled by a four piston front calliper with dual channel ABS and rear liftoff protection. The factory tyre fitment is Michelin Road 5, which is a genuinely impressive specification at this price point.
The electronics are where the RR310 makes its strongest case. Four riding modes, throttle by wire, a bi directional quick shifter, slipper clutch and traction control are all standard. A Bluetooth connected race computer logs lap times, G force data and gear shift points, with post ride analysis available on your phone. In Track mode the display strips back to a vertical tachometer and race telemetry only.
The bodywork is functional rather than decorative. Wind tunnel testing produced aerodynamic winglets that generate up to 3kg of downforce at speed, which improves stability under hard braking. Gill vents in the fairing manage engine heat.
Available colours are Bomber Grey, Racing Red and a limited Anniversary Special Edition. Optional performance and styling kits can be specified at the point of order.
