The Tata Osprey has arrived in South Africa, a locally curated version of the Nexon, designed to suit the needs of this market, the Indian manufacturer claims.
What is it?
The Osprey is Tata Motors’ latest SUV/cross-over offering for South Africa, positioned as a compact yet versatile model. While the name is new, the vehicle is essentially the Nexon, which has already proven itself as India’s top-selling SUV. The Osprey is available in four derivatives.
Interior:
Inside, the Osprey offers a blend of practicality and comfort. Standard models feature premium fabric upholstery, while higher trims provide genuine leather options. A four-inch LCD instrument cluster sits ahead of the steering wheel, with dashboard finishes varying between single and dual-tone depending on grade. As customers move up the range, features such as Harman infotainment, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, and even a panoramic sunroof become available.
Exterior:
The exterior styling highlights include LED headlamps and daytime running lights on entry models, with alloy wheels and roof rails added on mid-range versions. The flagship Creative+ PS DCA enhances the look with full LED headlamps, connected LED tail lamps, and an electric panoramic sunroof. Compact dimensions of 3 995 mm length and 208 mm ground clearance make it suitable for both urban and off-road conditions.
Model line-up:
The range begins with the Smart+ MT at R249 900, offering manual transmission and a seven-inch touchscreen. The Smart+ DCA at R279 900 introduces a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox with paddle shifters and drive modes. The Creative DCA at R309 900 adds a larger 10.25-inch infotainment system, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a 360-degree camera. At the top, the Creative+ PS DCA at R329 900 includes connected LED tail lamps, panoramic sunroof, wireless smartphone integration, wireless charging, and keyless entry.
Powertrain:
All models are powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 88.2 kW and 170 Nm The Smart+ MT uses a five-speed manual gearbox, while the other derivatives feature the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Drive modes include Eco, City, and Sport, allowing drivers to adapt performance to conditions.
Price and warranty:
Pricing starts at R249 900 for the Smart+ MT and rises to R329 900 for the Creative+ PS DCA. Each model comes with a five-year/125 000 km warranty and a three-year/45 000 km service plan. These are part of the TataMove promise, which includes roadside assistance, nationwide service coverage, mobility solutions, and OEM-certified repairs, ensuring peace of mind for owners.
