Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles South Africa has confirmed that the Osprey will be introduced locally during the third quarter of 2026. Known as the Nexon in other markets, the Osprey is positioned as a compact SUV designed to broaden the brand’s offering in South Africa.
What is it?
The Osprey is a compact SUV that combines premium comfort with rugged capability, Tata claims. Globally, the Nexon has been a major success for Tata, with more than 1.05 million units sold since its launch in 2017. The Osprey name has been adopted specifically for South Africa, reflecting a tailored approach to the local market.
Exterior:
Styling follows the brand’s SUV design language. Key features include sequential LED daytime running lights, bi-function full LED headlamps and a dual tone panoramic sunroof with tilt function. A raised bonnet and sleek lighting signature contribute to a dynamic stance, while the overall design emphasises a modern SUV character.
Interior:
The cabin is equipped with a two spoke steering wheel featuring an illuminated logo, a grand floor centre console and a premium dashboard with leatherette mid pad. A physical touch panel groups controls into one unit for intuitive use. Technology highlights include a 10.25-inch Harman infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and Connected Vehicle technology via IRA 2.0.
Seating is provided for five passengers, with ventilated leatherette seats and 382 litres of boot space. Safety and convenience are supported by a 360-degree surround view system, Blind View Monitor and HD Reverse Parking Camera.
Engine:
Although the engine line-up for South Africa is not known, overseas it is available with a choice between a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol-engine (88kW and 170Nm) or a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel-engine (85kW and 260Nm.
