Renault South Africa has introduced the updated Kiger Turbo, giving the compact SUV a stronger performance focus along with refreshed design details and improved in car technology.
With strong sales both globally and locally, the Kiger has already established itself as one of Renault’s key models in the entry SUV segment.
What is it?
The Kiger Turbo is a compact crossover SUV positioned as an accessible lifestyle vehicle for urban drivers and young families, according to Renault. It combines SUV styling with a relatively compact footprint.
Globally the Kiger has sold more than 180 000 units, and more than 28 000 examples are already on South African roads. A large part of its appeal comes from its balance between price, technology and practicality, including a 405 litre boot that can expand to 879 litres when the rear seats are folded.
Engine:
Power comes from a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 74kW and 160m of torque. Buyers can choose between a five speed manual gearbox or Renault’s X Tronic CVT automatic transmission.
Higher specification versions also feature Multi Sense drive modes, allowing the driver to select Eco, Normal or Sport settings depending on driving conditions or preference.
Exterior:
The updated Kiger Turbo adopts a bolder and more confident design. Key highlights include distinctive Tri Octa LED headlamps and available 16 inch diamond cut alloy wheels on higher trims.
SUV credentials are reinforced by 205 mm of ground clearance and functional roof rails rated to carry up to 50 kg. The model is available in several colour options including a new Autumn Yellow shade.
Interior:
Inside, the Kiger focuses on comfort and connectivity. The cabin features an eight inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a seven inch digital instrument cluster.
Top models add ventilated leatherette front seats, automatic climate control, wireless smartphone charging and a hands free smart access card. Practicality is enhanced by generous interior storage and rear air vents.
Specs:
Across the range the Kiger Turbo offers a wide safety package. Standard features include ABS with EBD, brake assist, tyre pressure monitoring and ISOFIX child seat mounts. Higher specification versions add electronic stability control, traction control and up to six airbags.
