Omoda launched a new flagship model, the C9 PHEV, a plug-in hybrid SUV, in South Africa, offering a 150km electric range and 440kW of power.
This marks the next step in Omoda’s commitment to offering South African drivers more electrified options, the Chinese manufacturer says.
What is it?
The Omoda SUV C9 PHEV offers all-electric capability for everyday journeys and the power and range of a petrol engine for longer journeys.
Drivetrain:
The C9 PHEV has an electric-only range of up to 150km and a combined range of over 1 100km, claims the manufacturer.
The combined power delivery is 440kW and 915Nm of torque, and the claimed fuel consumption could be as low as 1.4L/100km.
Charging is fast and straightforward, whether at home or at one of South Africa’s growing network of public charging stations. The 34.5kWh battery pack can be recharged in 5.5 hours when connected to a home charging Wall Box. Thanks to its 70kW fast-charging capability, the C9 PHEV can replenish its battery from 30%-80% in 25 minutes when plugged into a DC fast charger.
Interior:
In line with the C9 PHEV’s premium status, the interior combines contemporary design with high-end materials to create a distinctive experience for both front and rear occupants. The PHEV features Black/Light Brown Premium Nappa leather-trimmed seats.
The front seats are electrically adjustable — six-way for the driver and four-way for the front passenger — and offer heating and ventilation. The Nappa leather-trimmed steering wheel is also heated.
For a more luxurious and quiet driving experience, the C9 PHEV features acoustic laminated glass. This glass reduces aural intrusions within the cabin by minimising wind noise, resulting in a more relaxed interior ambience.

Exterior:
Offered exclusively in the range-topping Explore trim, the C9 PHEV greets customers with refined exterior styling. It features and a diamond-shaped grille, daytime running lights, as well as LED head- and taillights.
The C9 PHEV boasts 20-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof and privacy glass for the second row. Red-painted brake callipers hint at sportiness, underscoring the C9 PHEV’s performance capabilities.

Price:
The new Omoda C9 PHEV cost R999 000.
