There’s a lot of anticipation around the all-new Mazda CX-5 following its global reveal.

South African interest is especially high, and Deolinda Da Costa, Mazda Southern Africa’s Head of Marketing and Communications, has elaborated on what local customers can expect – and why the current CX-5 remains a compelling choice in the interim.

Deolinda emphasises: “The next-generation CX-5 marks a significant milestone for Mazda globally. While we look forward to introducing it locally, we’re equally committed to delivering outstanding value and features with our current line-up.” The mild-hybrid models will potentially be introduced to SA later than the initial launch.

The all-new Mazda CX-5 is expected to arrive in South Africa in the second half of 2026, although final launch dates are pending. When it debuts, South African customers can expect a 2.5L petrol engine variant. While mild-hybrid models will be available in other markets, Mazda Southern Africa has opted for a robust, efficient powertrain that aligns with local driving preferences and conditions.

Highlights of the next-generation model:

  • A bolder, more refined design featuring a newly sculpted body, an updated grille and the latest iteration of the Mazda badge and nomenclature.
  • Increased interior space and comfort, including greater rear legroom and improved sound insulation for a quieter, more practical driving experience.
  • An updated Human Machine Interface, offering streamlined control of apps, navigation and vehicle settings.
  • Enhanced driver assistance and safety features, with final specifications for South Africa to be confirmed closer to launch.
