Mahindra to open pre-ordering on XUV700

Mahindra’s new XUV700 will be available soon in South Africa with the order book opening mid-November.

The popularity of the new XUV700 range, consisting of three models, is evident in the long waiting list in its country of origin, India, with certain models’ delivery period stretching to close to 12 months.

This owing to the high demand for the new mid-sized SUV and in part because of the microchip shortage needed in certain models, as reported by the Indian motoring media.

With the brand new XUV700 in time for Christmas in South Africa, buyers of the new Mahindra Scorpio-N will have to wait till next year for the hardcore luxury off-roader that continues with its ladder-frame chassis that makes it a go-anywhere vehicle.

In India, supply outstrips demand for both ranges with orders for 150 000 XUV700s even before the vehicle has landed on showroom floors. According to Mahindra, the length of the waiting list broke all records in India.

The new XUV700 promises a major upgrade in specifications and technology for the manufacturer.

Locally, South Africans were privileged to see the international reveal of the XUV700 via a live-stream event earlier, after which Mahindra South Africa took its first launch units on a road trip to dealers and customers across the country.

“We received such overwhelmingly positive feedback from dealers and prospective customers that we have decided to open our order book on 15 November,” says Rajesh Gupta, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.

“Customers will have the opportunity to place their orders for the first units to arrive in South Africa and thus avoid any possible delay. We will release more information on the booking mechanism and benefits to our first customers on 7 November.”

The XUV700 is the first model to proudly carry the new Twin Peaks logo, and for good reason.

Three models of the new XUV700 will be launched in South Africa. All three models will feature Mahindra’s new high-definition dual-screen layout with a digital instrument panel and digital infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All models will also be fitted with Mahindra’s new 2-litre turbopetrol engine good for 147 kW and 380 Nm with a six-speed automatic gearbox. Although the XUV700 is also available with a new turbodiesel engine overseas, the diesel derivatives will not be introduced locally at this stage.

Pricing has not yet been announced.
