Mahindra South Africa has introduced the Bolero MaXX Pik Up, a new addition to its single cab range. The model joins the existing Pik Up S4 and S6 line up and is aimed at expanding Mahindra's portfolio of purpose-built transport solutions in the country.
What is it?
The Bolero MaXX is a single cab commercial bakkie built on the long running Bolero nameplate, which has been sold in South Africa for 22 years. It is positioned alongside the Pik Up S4 and S6 range, with the S4 and S6 continuing to serve higher speed and longer distance transport needs, while the Bolero MaXX is intended for entrepreneurs, fleet operators, agricultural businesses, contractors and municipalities. The vehicle is available through more than 100 Mahindra dealerships nationwide in three variants: the 1.3 City, 1.5 City and 1.7 HD.
Exterior:
The Bolero MaXX is a purpose-built load carrier. Payload capacities are 1.3 tonnes on the 1.3 City, 1.5 tonnes on the 1.5 City and 1.7 tonnes on the 1.7 HD. Load body lengths measure 2.5 metres on the 1.3 City, 2.64 metres on the 1.5 City and 3.05 metres on the 1.7 HD, and all three can accommodate a standard pallet between the wheel arches. The HD variant also gets underbody and side protection. Despite the load capacity, all models can be driven on a standard Code B-licence, and their compact dimensions, low mass and manoeuvrability suit operation in areas where larger commercial vehicles may struggle for access.
Interior:
The Bolero MaXX is not a luxury vehicle. It is built as a workhorse, though Mahindra has included a number of creature comforts. The cabin has wide cloth seats in a driver plus two configurations. On the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD, the seats have a stain resistant coating and the driver's seat reclines with reach and height adjustment. Air conditioning, heating and demisting are standard on the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD, along with a lockable air-cooled glovebox, bottle holders, cabin lamps and a 12V power- socket. On safety, rear parking sensors are standard across the range, with ABS available on the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD. Other safety elements include strong metal bumpers, an immobiliser and emergency locking retractor seatbelts for the driver and passengers.
Powertrains:
The Bolero MaXX range is powered by Mahindra's m2Di diesel engine. In the 1.3 City and 1.5 City, output is 52kW and 200Nm. The 1.7 HD produces 60kW and 220Nm. All variants use rear-wheel drive and a five-speed manual transmission, with claimed fuel consumption from 5.9 l/100 km and service intervals of 20 000km.
Prices and warranty:
The Bolero MaXX range is priced as follows: Bolero MaXX City 1.3 (R199 000), Bolero MaXX City 1.5 (R229 000) and Bolero MaXX HD 1.7 (R259 000). Every model in the range is covered by a 4 year or 120 000 km-standard warranty and roadside assistance, with optional service plans available for customers who want fixed and predictable running costs.
