Toyota South Africa Motors has introduced hybrid power to its flagship Land Cruiser 300 range. The new 3.5 litre twin turbo petrol hybrid models expand the line‑up alongside the existing diesel derivatives.
What is it?
The Land Cruiser 300 HEV is a new addition to the range and not a facelift. It combines a 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 petrol engine with Toyota’s hybrid system. Available initially in ZX specification and later in GR‑S grade, the HEV joins the established 3.3 litre diesel GX‑R and GR‑S models. The ZX is now offered exclusively with the hybrid powertrain.
Exterior:
The exterior receives subtle updates with a refreshed colour palette. New shades such as Magnetite Black and Classic White are introduced, while availability of existing colours has been revised across GX‑R, ZX and GR‑S derivatives. These changes enhance the premium appeal of the large SUV while retaining its full-size proportions and strong road presence.
Interior:
Inside, the cabin benefits from refined trim combinations that further elevate the premium feel. The ZX specification emphasises luxury, while the GR‑S grade focuses on adventure. A waterproof AC inverter beneath the centre console provides an external power supply of up to 1 500W, allowing users to power devices or use it as an emergency source. Connectivity is supported by Toyota Connect services, in‑car Wi-Fi and a complimentary data allocation.
Powertrains:
At the heart of the Land Cruiser 300 HEV is a 3.5-litre twin turbo V6 petrol-engine paired with Toyota’s compact hybrid system. The combined output is 341kW and 790Nm, delivered through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The system provides smooth acceleration and strong performance while maintaining off‑road capability. The HEV battery is covered by an 8-year / 160 000 km-warranty.
Range:
The updated line‑up includes the diesel GX‑R, diesel GR‑S, and the new hybrid ZX and GR‑S. The ZX is now exclusively hybrid powered, while the GR‑S is available in both diesel and hybrid forms. Each derivative retains the Land Cruiser’s full size SUV capability, with ZX focusing on premium specification and GR‑S offering adventure-oriented features.
Price:
The Land Cruiser 300 3.3 diesel GX‑R is priced at R1 596 800. The 3.3 diesel ZX is R2 150 400. The 3.5 petrol ZX is R2 191 300. The 3.3 diesel GR‑S is R2 210 100. The 3.5 petrol GR‑S is R2 247 500. The 3.5 petrol ZX HEV is R2 287 700, while the 3.5 petrol GR‑S HEV is R2 343 800. All models are backed by a 3-year or 100 000 km-warranty and 9-services or 90 000 km-service plan.
