What is it?

The JMC Vigus is a new double-cab bakkie brought to the South African market by Salvador Caetano, the official importers and distributors of JMC in South Africa. JMC is a Chinese manufacturer with 25 years of production history, having introduced its first-generation vehicles in 2001. The Vigus is built on a high-strength steel body, with 68 per cent of the structure comprising high-strength steel, and rides on what the manufacturer describes as a fortress-level chassis.

Model range:

The Vigus is offered in three variants. The entry-level model is a 6-speed manual 4x2, followed by an 8-speed automatic 4x2, and topping the range is an 8-speed automatic 4x4.

Engines:

All three variants are powered by a single engine option, the 2.5-litre turbodiesel unit designated the NB25, which produces 430Nm of peak torque.

Interior:

The automatic variants feature a spacious cabin, with the 4x2 automatic specifically noted for its interior room and comfort.

Exterior:

The Vigus features a muscular body design with what the manufacturer describes as strong front-end styling. Ground clearance and approach angles are highlighted on the 4x4 variant, which is aimed at off-road capability across varied terrain.

Prices:

The 6-speed manual 4x2 is priced at R399 900. The 8-speed automatic 4x2 retails at R459 900, and the range-topping 8-speed automatic 4x4 is priced at R499 900. All models are covered by a 5-year/200 000 km warranty and a 4-year/65 000 km service plan.
