The JMC Grand Avenue is a new double-cab bakkie aimed at buyers who need a vehicle that can serve as family transport, a leisure companion and a capable workhorse. As JMC's flagship bakkie, it enters one of South Africa's most competitive vehicle segments with an emphasis on space, technology and practicality.
What is it?
The Grand Avenue is positioned in the lifestyle double-cab market, competing against established rivals that balance passenger comfort with load-carrying and towing ability. Developed from the ground up, it is larger than many competitors, measuring 5.45 metres in length, 1.94 metres in width and up to 1.9 metres in height. Its generous dimensions contribute to a spacious passenger cabin and a sizeable load bed, making it suitable for both daily commuting and recreational use.
Exterior:
A bold front grille dominates the Grand Avenue's design, giving the bakkie a strong road presence. The front lighting system has been designed to improve visibility, while practicality remains a key focus throughout. Rear doors open to 75 degrees, making access to the second row easier, particularly for families. Standard features include Tailgate Assist, a wear-resistant load bed coating, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. These additions are intended to improve everyday usability whether the vehicle is being used for work, travel or outdoor activities.
Interior:
Inside, the Grand Avenue adopts a more refined approach than a traditional utility vehicle. The cabin features black leather seats, wood-look trim on the centre console and soft-touch door panels. A 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system takes centre stage on the dashboard and offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Noise-reduction measures, including an acoustic windscreen and enhanced insulation, help create a quieter cabin environment. Rear seatbacks can also be folded down to increase storage flexibility when required.
Engine:
Power comes from a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 155 kW and 500 Nm. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission supplied by ZF. Four-wheel-drive derivatives use a BorgWarner part-time 4x4 system and offer a wading depth of 800 mm. The Grand Avenue is also rated to tow up to 3.5 tonnes.
Prices:
The JMC Grand Avenue Double Cab Diesel 4x2 GL (R529 900) and JMC Grand Avenue Double Cab Diesel 4x4 GL (R579 900) are available in South Africa. Both models are sold with a 5-year/100 000km service plan and a 5-year/200 000km warranty.
