What is it?

The ORA 5 enters the compact SUV segment, competing with established mid‑size crossovers. Measuring 4 471 mm in length with a 2 720 mm wheelbase, it provides cabin space comparable to larger vehicles while retaining a footprint suited to urban driving. Its flexible platform accommodates petrol, hybrid and battery‑electric powertrains, positioning it as a versatile option in a crowded market.

Exterior:

The design follows the rounded styling associated with the ORA brand, scaled into a crossover stance. Signature round LED headlights and welcome lighting effects define the front profile. Roof rails emphasise its SUV character, while proportions balance everyday practicality with a bold presence. The overall look combines compact dimensions with mid‑size versatility.

Interior:

Inside, the ORA 5 adopts clean lines and high‑grade materials. A dual‑screen layout runs GWM’s Coffee OS infotainment system, offering smartphone integration and voice‑command capability. Six airbags are standard, alongside a suite of driver assistance systems. Options include a panoramic glass roof, which increases natural light and enhances the sense of space. The cabin aims to deliver premium comfort within a compact SUV format.

Powertrains:

Three propulsion choices are offered. The 1.5‑litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 105kW and 210Nm, paired with a seven‑speed dual‑clutch transmission. Hybrid models combine a 1.5‑litre turbo petrol engine with a high‑output electric motor, delivering 164kW and 476Nm through a two‑speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission that manages power flow between petrol and electric drive. Battery‑electric versions use a front‑mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 150kW and 260Nm, powered by a 58.3kWh lithium‑ion battery with a claimed range of up to 520km. An intelligent Battery Management System monitors temperature and charging to optimise durability.

Range:

The line‑up consists of six models. Petrol versions are available in Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury grades. Hybrid models follow the same trim levels, while the battery‑electric range also offers Super Luxury and Ultra Luxury specifications. Differences lie in equipment levels and propulsion choice rather than design.

Price and warranty:

Prices start with the ORA 5 1.5T Super Luxury DCT (R364 900) and ORA 5 1.5T Ultra Luxury DCT (R409 900). Hybrid models include the ORA 5 1.5T HEV Super Luxury DHT (R424 900) and ORA 5 1.5T HEV Ultra Luxury DHT (R474 900). Battery‑electric versions are the ORA 5 Super Luxury BEV (R549 900) and ORA 5 Ultra Luxury BEV (R599 900). All models are sold through selected dealerships with a 7‑year / 200 000 km-warranty, an 8‑year / 150 000 km-battery warranty, a 7‑year / 75 000 km-service plan, and roadside assistance for seven years.
