GWM launches new H6 PHEV with Hi4 hybrid all-wheel drive

GWM has added the HAVAL H6 PHEV to its South African line-up, a plug-in hybrid SUV that combines electric commuting capability with long-distance range and all-wheel-drive performance.

26 Haval Hy1

What is it?

The H6 PHEV is a plug-in hybrid SUV positioned within the existing H6 range. It retains the family-focused practicality of the H6 while introducing electrified performance and advanced driver assistance features as well as Hi4 all drive technology.

Exterior:

The design follows the established H6 look with a patterned grille, slim headlamps, and LED daytime running lights. The styling balances sporty appeal with everyday usability, maintaining the bold SUV presence familiar to the range.

Interior:

The cabin features GWM’s Coffee OS infotainment system with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, and a nine-speaker audio system are standard. Comfort equipment includes heated and ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and rear seats with armrest and cup holders.

Engine:

The Hi-4 hybrid drivetrain pairs a 1500 turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors. Outputs vary by derivative:

  • 2WD: 240kW and 540Nm.
  • AWD: 268kW and 760Nm.

The system manages torque distribution for traction and efficiency. Electric-only range is up to 106km, while combined range exceeds 1 000km.

The H6 PHEV is offered only in Ultra Luxury grade, with two versions:

  • H6 1.5T DHT Ultra Luxury PHEV (2WD): Lower output, front-wheel drive.
  • H6 1.5T DHT Ultra Luxury 4x4 PHEV: Higher output, all-wheel drive.

Specifications:

Both include advanced driver assistance systems such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane assistance, driver fatigue monitoring, electronic stability control, and a 540-degree panoramic camera system.

Prices:

H6 1.5T DHT Ultra Luxury PHEV 2WD (R699 900) and the H6 1.5T DHT Ultra Luxury 4x4 PHEV (R749 900).
