Just when you think the sedan is a distinct species thanks to the growing popularity of crossovers and SUVs, the market seems to still absorb small sedans rather than medium sized ones with a wide range of local competitors.
What’s new?
Exterior:
The Grand i10 (both hatch and sedan) received some new styling lines on the outside such as a new light cluster at the back, a new front grill finished in black and a new layout for the daytime running lights integrated into the front grill.
The sedan has a slightly different appearance with an extra piece of black finish between the bumper and the bonnet.
The block-oud C-pillar gives and interesting look to both the hatch and even more so the sedan. There is also an updated version of the Grand i10 Cargo, which is a panel van type of conversion of the hatch model, following the same styling cues as the hatch.
Interior:
Some new instrumentation and added technology are part of the package like a new 8” Infotainment System with CarPlay and Android Auto and a conventional instrumentation display with a 3.5" TFT LCD in the Fluid version. The Fluid gets a reverse camera and the Motion model’s parking sensors.
Engines:
A combination of the 1-litre, 3-cylinder engine (49 kW & 94 Nm) is used in the entry side of the hatch range while the 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine (61 kW & 114 Nm) is also used in the hatch range, the 1.2-litre power train is exclusively used in the sedan range.
Size:
The sedan version is a bit longer than the hatch (3 995 mm vs 3 815 mm) and it stands to reason that the boot of the sedan can take slightly more luggage than its hatch sibling (402 litres vs 360 litres).
Prices:
Panel Van: Grand i10 1.0 Motion Cargo M/T (R245 900).
Hatchback: Grand i10 1.0 Motion M/T (R229 900), Grand i10 1.2 Motion Auto (R269 900), Grand i10 1.0 Fluid M/T (R264 900), Grand i10 1.2 Fluid M/T (R279 900) and the Grand i10 1.2 Fluid Auto (R309 900).
Sedan: Grand i10 Sedan 1.2 Fluid M/T (R279 900) and the Grand i10 Sedan 1.2 Fluid Auto (R309 900).
