Ford has confirmed the arrival of the first Ranger Super Duty in South Africa during 2027. The model is set to be introduced in a phased approach and will be available in several body styles.
What is it?
The Ford Ranger Super Duty is a new addition to the Ranger line‑up and not a facelift. It has been engineered with heavy duty hardware including upgraded chassis, reinforced tow bar and heavy-duty axles. Classified as a Code 10 (C1) vehicle in South Africa, it carries a 4 500kg GVM rating and is designed for demanding applications in agriculture, mining, lifestyle and professional use.
Exterior:
The Ranger Super Duty retains the overall dimensions of the standard Ranger but features a TT frame for increased strength. Reinforced suspension mounts, box mount brackets and tow bar mounts add durability. Eight stud wheel hubs with larger bolts help spread the load. The model has been developed with upfitting in mind, offering accessible mounting points for accessories and specialised equipment.
Interior:
Inside, the Ranger Super Duty carries over the Ranger’s connectivity features including Ford’s SYNC system. Customers can monitor payload through Onboard Scales displayed on the screen. Pro Trailer Backup Assist is also included, allowing easier trailer manoeuvring. The cabin is equipped with the creature comforts and connectivity associated with the Ranger nameplate.
Powertrain:
Under the bonnet is Ford’s 3.0 litre turbo diesel V6 producing 154kW and 600Nm, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The engine is calibrated for heavy duty emissions standards and supported by improved cooling. A 130-litre long-range fuel tank is standard, while thick steel shielding protects key components. The vehicle features front and rear locking differentials, a two-speed transfer case with stronger components and an upgraded low range gearset.
Range:
The Ranger Super Duty will be offered in several body styles including Single Chassis Cab, Super Chassis Cab, Double Cab Chassis Cab and Double Cab. Each variant benefits from the reinforced frame, heavy duty rear axle and enhanced load carrying capacity. All models feature the same powertrain and heavy-duty specification, with differences centred on body style and application.
Price:
Pricing has not yet been finalised. Current market conditions suggest a band starting at approximately R1 100 000 for the Ranger Super Duty Single Chassis Cab and ranging to approximately R1 300 000 for the Ranger Super Duty Double Cab. Final pricing will be confirmed in 2027.
