Sharing the same basic platform but aimed at different buyers, the two derivatives bring a wider spread of features and capabilities to the range. The Kombi focuses on practicality and value, while the Titanium X AWD introduces a more premium specification with additional technology and all-wheel-drive capability.

What is it?

The new Kombi effectively replaces the previous Trend derivative in the Tourneo Custom line-up and serves as the more affordable option in the range. It is aimed at buyers who prioritise passenger-carrying ability, everyday usability and a straightforward ownership experience.

At the opposite end of the range sits the Titanium X AWD. Positioned as the flagship model, it offers a higher level of specification and greater versatility. The model is designed to appeal to buyers looking for additional comfort, convenience and flexibility, whether for family transport, executive use or shuttle duties.

Exterior:

Both derivatives benefit from Ford's latest Tourneo Custom design, featuring a more modern appearance with revised styling elements and improved illumination technology.

The Kombi adopts a simpler approach with a focus on functionality, while the Titanium X AWD gains several visual enhancements that underline its flagship status. These include larger 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights and model-specific exterior detailing.

Beyond the styling differences, the Titanium X AWD also features six selectable drive modes, allowing it to adapt to a variety of road and weather conditions while making full use of its all-wheel-drive system.

Interior:

A significant area of improvement across the range is the cabin. Both models feature a redesigned dashboard with a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrumentation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as FordPass connectivity.

In the Kombi, the emphasis remains on practicality. The cabin features durable cloth upholstery, a fixed eight-seat layout and multiple storage areas designed to accommodate everyday passenger transport requirements.

The Titanium X AWD elevates the experience with leather-trimmed seating, powered sliding side doors and configurable rear seating arrangements. The second- and third-row seats can be arranged in various layouts, including a conference-style configuration. Available features include heated second-row seats, a 14-speaker B&O sound system and a panoramic glass roof.

Buyers can also specify Ford's Mobile Office package, which adds extra USB ports, storage solutions, a folding tray table and a steering wheel that can be transformed into a work surface when the vehicle is parked.

Engines:

Both models are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Tourneo Custom Kombi produces 100kW and 360Nm of torque, providing sufficient performance for passenger and luggage-carrying duties.

In the Titanium X AWD, the same engine is tuned to deliver 125kW and 390Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through an intelligent all-wheel-drive system capable of automatically varying torque distribution between the front and rear axles to maximise traction when conditions demand it.

Pricing and warranty:

The Ford Tourneo Custom Kombi is priced at R996 000, while the range-topping Tourneo Custom Titanium X AWD retails for R1 354 100.

Both derivatives are sold with a four-year/120 000km warranty, a six-year/90 000km service plan, four years of roadside assistance and a five-year/unlimited-distance corrosion warranty.
