Ladies and gentlemen, get your cheque books, okay, your platinum credit cards with no limitations, for a one in a million, sorry, one in a 660 chance.
The occasion is the arrival of a single RS 6 Avant GT model in the country that will be auctioned in November.
The RS 6 Avant GT is the pinnacle of the model series and is limited to just 660 units globally of which one found its way to South Africa. To be specific – the lucky owner will probably be a few million bucks poorer after November but will own number 74 of number 660 of this rare masterpiece in the automotive world.
Audi SA says this collector’s item will fiund its new owner at a live auction during a dazzling gala dinner in November.
Considering, the normal Audi RS 6 quattro Avant retails for around R2.5 million, the expectations are that the GT could fetch few million rand more.
It is not only the Audi racing heritage associated with the GT that is significant but also the fact that the RS 6 Avant GT is the final pure internal-combustion RS 6 and the pinnacle of the model series.
Audi South Africa therefore expects this auction to generate significant interest among avid collectors and fans of the Audi brand. The event will be held in Cape Town on 7 November, where registered bidders, invited guests and media will witness the culmination of more than two decades of innovation and passion snapped up by one lucky bidder.
The idea of the RS 6 Avant GT goes back to the apprentice project RS 6 GTO concept from 2020. Twelve apprentices learning to work as bodywork and vehicle construction mechanics, automotive mechanics and painters, as well as tooling mechanics, toiled for six months with the support of Audi Design. They took most of their inspiration from the legendary Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO race car from 1989. The result shows the range of ways in which young talents can contribute to the company even during their apprenticeship.
The RS 6 Avant GT is packed with exclusive details throughout its exterior and interior. An impressive pass-through roof-edge spoiler, redefined diffuser, and 22-inch wheels in a distinctive design underscore its top position.
The interior features bucket seats, a fresh heritage-inspired colour combination, and the individual number of the vehicle in the centre console. Lightweight, adjustable suspension unique to the RS 6 Avant GT and a reworked quattro sport differential on the rear axle sharpen the driving experience.
The twin-turbocharged V8 engine delivers 463 kW and 850 Nm to reach 100 km/h in a mere 3.3 seconds, to 200 km/h in just 11.5 seconds to reach a top speed of 305 km/h.
