Rare, restored 1968 Jaguar Type S at Automechanika
Visitors at this year’s Automechanika Johannesburg should make sure not to miss Dealerfloor’s sister publication, Body Shop News Africa’s stand in Hall 2, where a very rare, restored Jaguar will be on show. The 1968 Jaguar Type S, known to its owner as “Greenie”, is valued at R370 000.

Restoration began in October 2021 and was completed in November 2025. Frik Botha first spotted the car, faded and slowly rusting, on a farm in Schweizer-Reneke. He bought it for R15 000. The work included two engines, a donor car and countless imported parts, followed by a full nuts and bolts restoration by British Sports Cars South Africa in Brentwood Park.
The car was resprayed in classic Willow Green and rebuilt from the chassis up. It has had a few dramatic moments along the way, including a matric farewell where the bonnet tried to turn itself into haute couture.
Automechanika Johannesburg held at Gallagher Estate, kicked off today (Tuesday 27 October) and runs until 29 October 2026, daily from 09:00 to 16:00.
