Audi South Africa successfully sold the final-edition Audi RS 6 Avant GT during at an exclusive auction held in Cape Town.
The event featured the only RS 6 Avant GT available in Africa, number 74, making it a true collector’s item for local automotive enthusiasts. After a hotly contested round of bidding, the vehicle was sold for R4.5 million.
With only 660 units produced globally, the RS 6 Avant GT represents the culmination of over two decades of passion, precision and performance, signifying the end of an iconic era in the Audi line-up.
“The RS 6 Avant GT is an iconic vehicle that embodies the soul of Audi,” says Sascha Sauer, Head of Audi South Africa. “This car showcases meticulous craftsmanship and a design inspired by the legendary 1989 Audi 90 Quattro IMSA GTO race car, telling a story of rich heritage and engineering prowess.”
A key aspect of the auction was its commitment to social responsibility, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Kutlwanong Centre for Maths, Science and Technology, a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of mathematics and physical science education among South African youth, particularly in township schools and rural areas to enable them to pursue STEM-related careers.
Founded in 2005, Kutlwanong is focused on nurturing a talent pool of professionals pursuing careers in critical fields such as commerce, engineering, science, mining, technology and mathematics. Over the past 19 years, Kutlwanong has cultivated thinkers, motivated innovators and groomed the leaders of tomorrow, enabling youth to contribute meaningfully to the economy. They have assisted more than 40,000 township-based youth to achieve solid passes (50% and above) in mathematics and physical science plus 12,000 township Grade 12 youth to achieve maths and science distinctions (80% and above).
“This extraordinary donation by Audi South Africa means so much,” says Tumelo Mabitsela, CEO of Kutlwanong. “The funds we’ve received will go toward further supporting our work to assist students to pursue STEM careers. This will ensure that South African youth participate in, and are equipped for, the Fourth Industrial Revolution.”
