The JRA will be highlighting its commitment to smart, sustainable and inclusive mobility solutions that contribute to the economic growth, job creation and improved quality of life for residents of Johannesburg.

The summit will feature a range of discussions and presentations on the latest trends and innovations in smart mobility, with a particular focus on the role of technology in addressing the challenges of urbanisation and sustainable development in Africa. The JRA will be represented by its CEO, Zweli Nyathi, who will participate in a roundtable discussion on "Solutions for Preventing Road Crashes & Universally Accessible Streets".

Zweli will share the JRA's approach to Harnessing Private Sector partnerships in Support of Service Delivery in Johannesburg. The JRA is committed to investing in infrastructure upgrades, implementing innovative technologies and promoting community-led initiatives to improve road safety and accessibility for all.

"We believe that smart mobility is essential for creating a more sustainable and equitable future for Johannesburg," says Zweli. "By embracing technology and working together with our partners, we can build a city where everyone can move freely and safely."

The JRA seeks to mitigate key service delivery challenges through smart mobility solutions, and consequently the JRA will be using the Smarter Mobility Africa Summit to call on interested bidders to submit submissions for solutions on four focus areas:

  • Focus Area 1: Theft, Vandalism and accidents affecting traffic lights functioning.
  • Focus Area 2: Supply, delivery and maintenance of on-road traffic sensors and detectors for improved road traffic management.
  • Focus Area 3: Sustainable power supply to traffic signals in mitigation of fossil-driven energy and power outages.
  • Focus Area 4: Road Safety Systems and alternatives.
