As part of continuing the legacy of our late President, Tata Nelson Mandela, Isuzu Motors South Africa handed over five specially customised wheelchairs worth over R80 000 to bring hope and mobility to special needs learners at the Lonwabo School situated in Motherwell township.
The five wheelchairs were intricately engineered and customised according to the individual needs and requirements of each of the five Lonwabo School learners who will each be receiving a wheelchair.
“We are extremely pleased to hand over these customised wheelchairs to learners at Lonwabo School. We know that they represent so much more. They bring hope, aid mobility and represent strength,” says ISUZU Motors South Africa’s Corporate and Public Affairs Department Executive, Mr Lebogang Makoloi.
“About 5% of ISUZU Motors South Africa’s headcount consists of people who are differently abled. As an internationally recognised Top Employer spearheading transformation in the automotive industry, Isuzu Motors South Africa is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment to ensure all mankind have a sense of belonging and are treated with respect and dignity,” Lebogang continued.
The donation and customisation of these wheelchairs have been realised through a partnership between Isuzu Motors South Africa and the Dabane Foundation, which aims to raise awareness of the plight of people living with disabilities.
“As the Dabane Foundation, we are extremely pleased to partner with ISUZU in our mission to help people, especially children, living with disabilities to be mobile. This generous donation by ISUZU is positively impacting the everyday life of each one of these children who has received a wheelchair,” says Dabane Foundation Founder, Lubabalo Jack.
Lonwabo School caters for children with all forms of disabilities and offers a special syllabus and programme.
