From Wuhu to Rosslyn: how the Omoda X and C4 share a design direction
In Wuhu, China, Omoda gave the Omoda X its global debut at Omoda X Night, held as part of the 2026 Omoda & Jaecoo International User Summit.

The X previews the next evolution of the brand’s Cyber Mecha design language. It combines geometric forms with a more purposeful and rugged appearance, and Omoda describes it as a bolder direction for the philosophy.
South African buyers will meet that design direction first on the C4. The model is destined for the local market and is scheduled to enter production at the Rosslyn manufacturing facility from the third quarter of 2027. Mecha styling will form a central part of the next generation of Omoda vehicles, with the X offering an early look at how it will develop across future models.
Shannon Gahagan, Head of Brand and Marketing for Omoda & Jaecoo and iCAUR South Africa, says the link to South Africa is what makes the reveal relevant locally.
“With the C4 also set to be produced here in South Africa, this next chapter in the brand’s design story has particular relevance to our market. It offers an exciting indication of where the brand is heading globally,” she says.
The X also builds on Omoda’s Crossrevolution philosophy, which pairs the everyday usability of a crossover with more expressive styling and a stronger focus on individuality. According to the brand, it moves beyond the conventional urban crossover formula while keeping the versatility expected of the segment.
The reveal comes as Omoda & Jaecoo expands its international range. The group plans to grow its portfolio to 13 models over the next three years as it enters new segments and caters to a wider range of customers. The marque has recorded more than 1.4 million cumulative vehicle sales globally in three and a half years and is now represented in 79 markets.
For now, the focus is on design, with further details on the Omoda X, including its powertrain, specifications and availability, to be announced at a later stage.
Charging time remains a worry for many South Africans considering an electric vehicle, who still see it as a disruption rather than a quick stop at a filling station. That view is starting to shift.
