2022’s best selling vehicles around the world

The year 2022 has been wrapped up, and automotive site Motor1 has crunched the numbers to determine the world’s top selling vehicle models.

Their findings are as follows:

  • Argentina: Fiat Cronos (38,769), Peugeot 208 (25,649) and Toyota Hilux (24,628)
  • Australia: Toyota Hilux (64,391), Ford Ranger (47,479) and Toyota Rav 4 (34,845)
  • Brazil: Fiat Strada (112,456), Hyundai HB20 (96,255) and Chevrolet Onix (85,252)
  • China: BYD Song Plus (459,424), Nissan Sylphy (446,492) and Wuling Hongguang Mini EV (443,384)
  • France: Peugeot 208 (88,812), Dacia Sandero (64,293) and Renault Clio (64,012)
  • Germany: Volkswagen Golf (84,282), VW T-Roc (64,012) and VW Tiguan (59,136)
  • India: Maruti Wagon R (217,317), Maruti Baleno (185,627) and Maruti Swift (176,424)
  • Indonesia: Daihatsu Gran Max (65,062), Honda Brio (61,025) and Toyota Avanza (60,625)
  • Italy: Fiat Panda (105,384), Lancia Ypsilon (40,970) and Fiat 500 (33,996)
  • United Kingdom: Nissan Qashqai (42,704), Vauxhall Corsa (35,910) and Tesla Model Y (35,551)

In South Africa, as in its neighbour Down Under, the Toyota Hilux was also the most sought-after vehicle with a total of 29,647 units sold between January and November 2022. In second place is the VW Polo Vivo (19,445) and in third place the Toyota Urban Cruiser (16,047).
