MG has opened a new engineering centre in Frankfurt as part of its “in Europe, for Europe” approach. The facility will focus on developing vehicles suited to European conditions, including climate, roads and driving habits. It will work alongside existing teams in the United Kingdom (UK) and London design hub.
The brand says it has now sold over one million vehicles in Europe, reflecting its rapid expansion in the region. Future models are expected to continue focusing on technology, design and value for European buyers.
MG SolidCore Battery:
MG has introduced its new semi solid state battery, called the SolidCore Battery, claiming it is the first manufacturer to achieve mass production of this type of battery.
The technology is designed to improve range, charging speed, safety and performance in cold conditions. It also aims to provide more consistent performance across different climates. According to MG, the battery structure includes solid state electrolytes that act as a protective barrier, helping extend lifespan and meet future regulations.
Another key feature is improved cold weather operation, with the battery allowing vehicles to start without preheating and maintain better performance in low temperatures. The SolidCore Battery is planned for introduction in MG electric vehicles in Europe from the end of 2026.

MG Hybrid+ technology:
MG is also developing its Hybrid+ system, which combines software and hardware improvements to enhance efficiency and performance. The system is designed to improve fuel consumption, deliver power more quickly and create smoother integration between the engine and electric motor.
The setup includes a larger 1.83kWh battery to extend electric only driving and reduce running costs. It also uses a three speed hybrid transmission, which MG describes as a first in its segment, alongside an eight mode system that adjusts how power is delivered. The system can adapt to driving conditions using real time terrain detection, for example on slopes, and aims to improve refinement through reduced noise and vibration.
Comment:
Kimi Li, Vice President of MG Europe and the UK, says: “MG’s new SolidCore Battery and Hybrid+ technology provide tangible benefits for our customers and position our vehicles at the forefront.
“These advancements reinforce MG’s commitment to making cutting-edge technology and electric mobility more intuitive, accessible, and widely available. Our strategy of developing MG vehicles in Europe, for Europe further enhances the desirability, versatility, and value that our cars deliver to customers across the European market,” he says.
Europe’s used electric vehicle (EV) market is experiencing a notable surge as the Iran conflict drives up global oil prices and pushes petrol costs sharply higher across the continent.
Zero Carbon Charge (CHARGE), developer of a national network of off-grid, solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, has formally submitted an objection to the South African National Roads Agency Limited’s (SANRAL) proposed amendments to its Rest and Service Facilities (RSF) Policy.
A new modelling study published in Nature Energy suggests that battery‑electric passenger vehicles (EVs) could become the most cost‑effective option for many African countries within the next two decades.
