Enviro Automotive, an importer and distributor of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), is expanding its local market reach through strategic partnerships, offering prospective EV buyers a more comprehensive and accessible approach to affordable EV ownership.
Enviro Automotive, the official importer of the DFSK, Dayun and SRM EV ranges, announced a new distribution partnership with WilGin Holdings, the local distributor of DFSK ICE vehicles and JMC (Jiangling Motors Corporation Limited) products and parts. Under this agreement, Enviro Automotive will sell its three EV brands through WilGin's 18 nationwide dealers, providing comprehensive after-sales service.
Enviro Automotive launched the Chinese automaker DFSK's (Dongfeng Sokon Automobile) EC35 EV panel van and EC31 EV 1-tonne forward-cab bakkie in the local market in 2022. Since its introduction, the two- and four-seater EC35 EV panel vans and EC31 EV 1-tonne bakkie have gained significant traction in the market.
To consistently exceed customer expectations, Enviro Automotive has introduced auto-electrical training to prepare technicians for diagnosing and repairing new-generation EV vehicles. As more people recognise the significant benefits of EVs, the shift towards these vehicles will accelerate, making this specialised training increasingly essential.
Earlier this year, Enviro Automotive also partnered with various Bosch Service Stations and initiated technician training to enhance their skills in working with BEVs. After successful training sessions in Cape Town and Mbombela, this programme will roll out nationwide, equipping technicians to service the Enviro Automotive line-up as the company expands its local footprint through accelerated sales.
Enviro Automotive is pursuing licensing agreements with automotive dealer groups and privately owned dealerships while seeking partnerships with fleet management companies. This strategy aims to make its EVs more accessible nationally by leveraging a multi-franchise dealer approach, using existing dealerships rather than establishing a new network, to avoid negatively impacting retail pricing.
"We are excited about our growing local distribution and service agreements. These partnerships will support our mission to assist organisations and the car-buying public in transitioning to sustainable green energy solutions, enabling them to reduce their carbon footprint while also saving money in the process," says Gawie Brink, Technical Director of Enviro Automotive.
In May, Enviro Automotive announced the upcoming launch of the DFSK EC75 EV panel van, set for the last quarter of 2024. The EC75 EV, featuring higher specification levels than the EC35 EV, is powered by a single synchronous electric motor delivering 70 kW and 230 Nm of torque. Its 50.38 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery offers a range of over 300 kilometres.
Gawie explains that the addition of the DFSK EC75 EV will significantly bolster Enviro Automotive's sales, offering a broader range of EV panel vans. "This will enable transport operators to choose the right product for the job as they start recognising the substantial advantages EV products bring to their operations."
"Our partnerships with WilGin Holdings and Bosch Car Service Centres are key to accelerating the adoption of affordable battery-electric vehicles across South Africa," says Gideon Wolvaardt, Managing Director of Enviro Automotive. "Expanding into new markets through partnerships and licensing agreements helps us make affordable EV ownership more appealing to South Africans while ensuring excellent customer support nationwide."
Volkswagen Group Africa has added an additional 3 megawatt (MW) solar power to its grid, bringing the total output of renewable energy to 5.9MW. This is enough energy to power at least 2 000 two-bedroom houses fitted with geysers and electrical appliances.
Volvo Car South Africa has cemented itself as a leader in the local electric vehicle segment, with combined sales totalling 467 between January and September 2024.
