The NTT Group, which has more than 40 dealerships in South Africa, has invested more than R70 million in a new Volkswagen dealership in Krugersdorp in Gauteng.
The new fully-fledged Volkswagen dealership, which relocated to its new premises in a prime area close to the Key West Shopping Centre in Krugersdorp, comprises a state-of-the-art showroom, workshop and parts department.
Volkswagen Krugersdorp, which is part of the NTT Group, opened its doors to its new premises in April 2021.
The dealership will be run by dealer principal Alta Venter, a seasoned dealer principal with more than 40 years’ experience with the Volkswagen brand.
She has won many awards over the years, including the coveted Gold Pin Award for consistent performance, professionalism and brand loyalty and has also won the Grand Prix Club of Excellence Award twice. Venter has been on the list of Top 25 Sales Achievers 15 times and is an honorary member of the ‘Volkswagen Wall of Fame’.
The NTT Group has a total of nine Volkswagen dealerships in South Africa. The group’s Volkswagen dealership in Kimberley was recently awarded Dealer of the Year at the recent Grand Prix Awards. The NTT Group also won the Micro Group of the Year award for 2020.
Steffen Knapp, Head of the Volkswagen Passenger Car Brand, said the Volkswagen brand has a total of 109 dealerships in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana, with these dealerships providing employment to more than 5 200 people across the network.
The Volkswagen dealer network in 2020, together with sales to the car rental industry, government and the brand’s corporate fleet, helped the Volkswagen brand achieve a record-breaking market share of 21.6%.
If sales only through the dealer network are taken into account, then the Volkswagen brand achieved a market share of 19% in 2020, with sales through the dealer network accounting for more than 75% of Volkswagen’s total sales.
The NTT Motor Group was founded in 1990 when it established its first Toyota dealership in Mokopane, previously known as Potgietersrus.
The group has since acquired Volkswagen, Audi, Nissan, Isuzu and Honda franchises and operates in all nine provinces in South Africa as well as in Botswana.

One of the latest Chinese automotive brands to establish itself in South Africa, GAC Motor, is benefitting from the expertise of well-known motor groups in the country, like the BB Motor Group.
Stellantis has announced the expansion of its multi-franchise dealer network with the addition of the Fiat and Jeep brands to the existing Westvaal Motor Group dealership in Klerksdorp in North West Province.
