With a passion for the brand and a commitment to delivering the best service and community involvement, MG’s new flagship dealer in Fourways is ready to take the iconic nameplate to new heights.
So says Lloyd Quin, Dealer Principal at MG Fourways, which forms part of the Phase V Automotive Group with 13 dealerships and approved repair centres, as well as The Car Auction online platform.
“MG Fourways is a standalone dealership, a rare sight these days where most dealerships form part of a multi-franchise set-up,” Dealerfloor is told. “The location at one of the busiest intersections in Fourways and the stand-out red colour scheme will make this location the talk of the town, so to speak,” the DP says.
MG Fourways opened its doors on 1 October and is the newest addition to the MG family, currently consisting of 48 MG dealers in South Africa. The dealership has 35 employees on site. This location is not only of strategic importance to them, but it makes us an integral part of this busy, vibrant and energetic Fourways community. Involvement in this community with schools, sports clubs and other organisations is key to demonstrating our commitment,” he says.

The team believes the familiarity and brand recognition of the MG name should not be underestimated. Although Chinese-owned today, the name still holds value and sentiment for many people. The extended range and variety of options MG have on display underscore the value proposition connected to dynamic and well-equipped vehicles.
They say from their MG3, ZS and ZS Pro, HS to our unique fully electric Cyberster sports model, MG has something to satisfy a variety of customer needs. If you add the good reputation of the brand, the strong warranties, service or maintenance plans and the first-rate service we deliver, it is not difficult to see why, just after a few months back in business, MGs are selling like proverbial hot cakes,” Dealerfloor is told.
Asked about the customer profile, we are told the range appeals to a wide spectrum of people, but with an average customer age of 38 years, it is definitely older people who are fond of the brand. “The MG brand is familiar to a large number of older people even though the gap between the old MG from back in the day and the current venture into South Africa is worlds and literally decades apart.”
MG says the quality of the vehicles is excellent and the choice of drivetrains, which also includes a hybrid option apart from the fully electric Cyberster, is part of the broader offering in each range. Thus far they have been selling around 20 new MGs a month, a good indication of the brand’s popularity in the country. The dealership has a large used car division at this location with between 50 and 70 vehicles available.
The management team is experienced in the automotive retail space. Lloyd was with another BMW dealership since 2005, starting straight after school and working his way up through the ranks. He joined the family-owned Phase V Group in 2019, working at the BMW dealerships before being recently appointed Dealer Principal at MG Fourways.
Geely Auto South Africa is preparing to take its rightful place in the local automotive market, with 33 dealerships already operating within a month after the Chinese auto giant’s return to the country.
Zweli Sibiya, Dealer Principal of Hyundai Benoni, is a man who rose from humble beginnings to lead one of the top-performing dealerships.
SCW Group’s multi-franchise set-up in Milnerton in the Western Cape now also boasts a brand-new Mahindra dealership.
