Harmony became a force to be reckoned with in terms of dealerships for new-energy vehicles. Recently, it opened up a BYD flagship dealership in Sandton with 20 more BYD dealerships in the pipeline.
The company has established a global presence by partnering with BYD, operating over 100 dealerships in countries like Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa.

Recently Absa and BYD signed an agreement aiming for the wider adoption of green solutions in the local passenger vehicle market, as well as to achieve a shared goal between Absa and BYD, namely: the establishment of a green vehicle finance ecosystem.
Dealerfloor asked the Dealer Principal at BYD Sandton, Daniel Li, a few questions on the new dealership and what customers can expect.
1. What is the size of the dealership?
The BYD Sandton dealership officially opened in October and is located at the corner of Rivonia Road and Daisy Street, right in the heart of Sandton. The facility covers nearly 5 000 square metres, featuring a modern showroom, customer lounge and vehicle delivery area. The after-sales department is currently being set up and will soon provide a complete range of maintenance and repair services to our customers.
2. What does the new facility offer customers?
Once fully operational, the dealership will offer a complete one-stop experience – from vehicle display and test drives to finance, insurance and after-sales service. We are also planning to instal charging stations on site in the near future to make EV ownership more convenient for our customers.
3. And the after-sales and service area?
While our after-sales department is still being developed, it will be designed according to BYD’s global standards for EV servicing. It will focus on safety, efficiency and will be equipped with advanced diagnostic systems. Compared to a traditional ICE dealership, our service area will be cleaner, quieter and supported by high-voltage trained technicians.
4. Can you tell us more about Harmony in South Africa?
BYD Sandton is operated by Harmony New Energy Auto Service South Africa (Pty) Ltd, a company dedicated to promoting sustainable mobility and new-energy solutions in South Africa. Our management team brings extensive experience from premium and new-energy vehicle brands, both locally and internationally.
5. What models are the most popular and can you tell us more about your customer base?
Our initial feedback shows that the BYD Sealion 6 and BYD Shark are expected to be the most popular models among customers in Sandton and surrounding areas such as Bryanston, Fourways and Rosebank. These models perfectly balance performance, technology and practicality — appealing to both family buyers and professionals.
6. More details on the charging facilities?
Public charging facilities are not yet available, but our plan is to instal fast chargers at the dealership shortly. Once operational, they will be open to both BYD owners and the public at a reasonable charging rate.
7. Did the technicians receive special training?
BYD technicians receive specialised training directly from BYD’s global technical academy, focusing on EV-specific systems such as high-voltage safety, battery technology and electronic control modules.
