Alex Boavida takes over all roles as NADA Vice Chair

Mercedes-Benz Sandton dealer principal, Alex Boavida, has taken over sole responsibility for the position of Vice Chairperson of the National Automobile Dealers’ Association (NADA) with immediate effect.

Boavida was elected joint Vice Chairperson of NADA with Marcia Mayaba at the association’s general meeting in the last quarter of 2021.

NADA chairperson, Mark Dommisse, says the announcement of Boavida being the sole Vice Chairperson of the organisation follows Mayaba embarking on a new role within the manufacturing sector of the automotive industry and consequently bringing to an end her tenure as joint Vice Chairperson of NADA.

Dommisse says they are extremely excited that Boavida has embraced the leadership role of Vice Chairperson of the NADA national executive committee (NEC).

“Her professional approach to business coupled with her vast experience in automotive retail, will stand us in good stead.

“We look forward to working with her on various matters impacting motor vehicle dealers, as we navigate our way through and past the pandemic,” he says.

The flagship Mercedes-Benz Sandton dealership in Rivonia Road that Boavida heads is the first dealership of its kind in the world and the biggest on the continent.

Boavida says she is honoured to serve as Vice-Chairperson of NADA, which has played a key role in helping the retail motor industry weather the incredibly challenging COVID-19 pandemic.

“I look forward to working alongside Mark [Dommisse], the NEC and our many stakeholders as we recover and grow in these rapidly developing times.

“This is an industry that touches every aspect of a business – from technical, logistics and customer service to sales, marketing, finance, full asset management and so much more.

“No one day is the same as the next, which all adds to the thrill and excitement of the industry in which we operate,” she says.

Mayaba was CEO of Barloworld Motor Retail when she was elected joint Vice Chairperson of NADA last year.

Her departure from her role at NADA follows Mayaba subsequently leaving the motor retail business of the JSE-listed group to take up a position as the new department executive for dealer and business development at Isuzu Motors South Africa.

Dommisse says NADA is grateful to Mayaba for her transformational leadership during her term, especially in her role as Chairperson of the NADA Transformation Committee.

“The dedication, time and effort she has put into the association during her tenure are truly appreciated.
